Atiogie’s Kindness

As an example of his kindness, the story is told that Atiogie knew his father liked to eat yams (ufi). So he went out one Monday morning and brought home some fine yams. As soon as Atiogie had left the house, the old man counted them and found that the basket contained 7 yams, he said nothing. But when his son prepared him one yam every day of that week one, keeping none for himself, he felt very lucky and grateful for having such a good and kind son. Fe’epo, therefore, blessed his son and promised him 7 children, 6 boys and 1 girl.

Here Fe’epo is signaling the promise of seven children to Atiogie in recognition and as a reward for these kindnesses.
